Change of Tune: Musics Role in Standing up to the Pub Closure Trend
As weekly pub closure rates reach an all-time high, landlords are having to seriously evaluate the experience they offer their customers in order to fight the downward trend.
Disappointing news for the pub industry shows the number of pubs closing their doors increased dramatically in the six months to March 2013, rising from 18 to 26 per week. Despite this apparently bleak outlook, CAMRA chief Mike Benner remains optimistic for the future of Britain’s pubs, thanks to recent government changes.
“The scrapping of the beer duty escalator and the extra 1p off beer duty announced in this year’s budget could mark a turning point for pubs,” Benner commented, adding, “We are hopeful that the fortunes of Britain’s pubs are set to change.”
While these measures certainly represent a step in the right direction, tax hikes in the past few years mean the 1p rate reduction represents only a minor break for pubs, and landlords cannot afford to become complacent. Instead, bar and pub owners must ensure every aspect of their offering is catered to create an inviting, stand-out experience for their customers.
Beyond the food and drink, the staff and the way a pub looks, music has to be one of the most significant factors contributing towards a venue’s atmosphere. The style of music can completely change the feel of an establishment, so it’s important to match the tracks played to the type of consumer a pub wishes to attract.
As music specialists, Hire Jukebox recognise this fact and are dedicated to personalising our recommendations so each landlord gets the jukebox package that’s right for their venue. This tailored service covers everything from advising on the jukebox model and music library, to suggesting where to place the jukebox and speakers for maximum impact. Landlords can even have their own music requests, photographs and pub event listings added to the jukebox to really make it their own.
