At Hire Jukebox, we have always felt that a jukebox adds a little soul to a location. Therefore, we knew it was the perfect solution for an Irish themed bar, called Callaghan’s, which forms part of the Holiday Inn Hotel at Heathrow.

The hotel wanted to install the jukebox to create an authentic pub-style atmosphere to stop guests from leaving the hotel to find other venues and to keep them at the bar for longer. The décor of the pub was beautiful and along with a pool table and Sky Sports, the jukebox helped to create an atmosphere that was miles away from the average airport hotel bar.

The jukebox has been a massive success, so much so that locals have also started to use the bar, as well as guests. One night, we had a phone call from Callaghan’s. There was a disaster – over 200 guests had been invited to a party in the bar organized by the hotel but the DJ had let them down. The staff were desperate and wanted to know if there was anything we could do to help.

As the jukebox was online, our engineer was able to remotely access the jukebox settings via his mobile phone and enable “DJ MODE”. Within seconds the staff at Callaghan’s were able to access DJ MODE via the managers menu. This sets the jukebox on free play and allows the customers themselves to choose from a wide range of tracks, including every UK Top 40 chart release since 1952. The DJ mode then displays the list of songs chosen and in what order they will be played. Staff can then pause a song, change the order, skip tracks, or lower the volume if they want to make an announcement. Tracks are cross faded to allow the songs to fade in and out seamlessly – just as if there was a DJ playing.

The party was a huge success. In fact, Callaghan’s have now decided to continue using DJ mode instead of booking DJs in future, which will save them hundreds of pounds. They have told us that the jukebox is paying for itself time and time over again, as it is keeping people in longer, bringing more people into the bar and leading to an improved take behind the bar. They are even using the touch screen display to advertise forthcoming events and promotions, which also helps to increase sales.

Veronica  Requeijo Callaghan’s manager said, “The first thing anyone says when they use the jukebox is ‘Wow!’. It’s got so much choice it’s amazing. Being a hotel bar, we attract all different types of clientele but one thing the jukebox does is bring people together. We’ve had some great nights to remember and the jukebox has played a key part in this. It’s been a massive success and a great service to our customers.”
